Ingredients
- Servings, Allow 1/3 cup uncooked rice per person, less if more than 10 servings
- 2 cups white rice, preferably basmati
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon salt
Directions
1. White rice is always a proportional dish. Think one part rice, two parts water equals 3 parts cooked rice. |
2. Rinse rice in strainer. Can reserve cloudy water for plants and orchids. |
3. Method #1: Add rice, water and salt to medium pan. Cover and bring to a boil. Lower heat to lowest simmer. In 20 minutes check for doneness. Grains should not have a clear center and "vent" holes should be present. Turn off heat, keep covered for up to 2 hours before serving. |
4. Method #2: You can also bring it to a boil and then turn off the heat and let it sit for 20 plus minutes. This will work for white rice. |
5. Additional Information: |
6. Brown rice and wild rice need additional water and 45 minutes cooking time. |
7. Stir fry rice should always use left over, cold rice. |
